Curriculum

The core philosophy of Mater Gardens Academy is to provide a multi-age
developmental program. The multi-age setting and curriculum provides an active
learning environment for the students.

Benefits of a multi-age curriculum

* Students are grouped according to needs, abilities, and interests.

* The goal-setting mind frame is taught and established from a young age.

* The older students develop leadership qualities and improve responsibility as
the younger students obtain intellectual stimulation through the interactions.

* Social experiences for the students are broadened with increased
opportunities to lead, collaborate, develop stable peer relationships,  and
establish ownership of the learning environment.

* Action-consequence relationships are built and understood by the students.

interactive sessions, and individual pacing instruction.

State and district determine the
curriculum and assign it to the grade
levels.
Curriculum is shared by all grade levels
and takes into consideration the
students' needs.
Subjects are taught in isolation.
Subjects are integrated.
Teachers "cover" material dictated by
textbook publishers.
The curriculum is determined by the
students' needs and interests.
Teachers directly transmit to the
students knowledge and facts.
Teachers act as facilitators and guide
the learning.
Instruction is geared toward mastery and
retention of stated objectives.
Instruction is designed to develop life
skills and guide the individual student
based on his/her strengths.
Emphasis on whole class instruction
minimizes individual differences.
Individual differences are prioritized and
met by the development of small,
heterogeneous, and flexible groups
within the classroom.
Students work on goals established
solely by the teacher.
Students work on the goals established
by the students, parents, teachers, and
school community members.
